Gifted and Talented Education Identification

Elementary

Kindergarten

In kindergarten, each student is provided an opportunity to be identified for Gifted and Talented Education. Our identification process consists of three areas:

  • ability

  • achievement

  • behavior characteristics.

Kindergartners who are not currently enrolled in Brainerd Public Schools may still be assessed for Gifted and Talented Education. Click here  for the complete process.

Grades 1-4

Students in grades 1-4 may be assessed for Gifted Education at the request of a teacher or parent. If not previously taken, the initial step is a cognitive abilities test. Depending on the ability score, more information may need to be gathered in the areas of:

  • performance

  • classroom achievement

  • behavior characteristics.

Out of District /

New Students

For students moving to, or considering attendance in, Brainerd Public Schools, the identification process is similar to that of our current students. The initial step is a cognitive abilities test. Depending on the ability score, more information may need to be gathered in the areas of:

  • performance

  • classroom achievement,

  • behavior characteristics
